An edition of Bombay Sapphire's gin inspired by the flavours of the east, adding Thai lemongrass and Vietnamese black peppercorns for more spice and a hint of citrus. Size: 1L Proof: 84 (42% ABV) Origin: England Distillery: Bombay Spirits Co. Ltd. Bombay Sapphire East Gin is an interesting extension in the Bombay Sapphire brand. It features all of the botanicals from Bombay Sapphire (juniper, grains of paradise, lemon peel, cubeh berries, coriander seeds, angelica root, almond, orris, and licorice) and then adds lemongrass and black pepper. These two new botanicals clearly stand out in the nose of the Bombay Sapphire East Gin, giving it a spicier and fuller nose. The lemongrass seems to also boost the lemon in the nose and the black pepper boosts the juniper. Nose: Nosing note with the lemon grass combining and taking the edge off a number of the other ingredients. Palate: Nice oily entry, slightly sweet entry that then ends drying quickly and start a slight warm burn of pepper along the edges of the tongue with a lot of citrus and spice and a somewhat understated juniper, lots of citrus, touches of almond and angelica backing up the juniper, and the cubeb coriander and orris giving the gin some nice bones to it. Finish: The lemongrass give it a lingering aromatic finish while the black pepper leaves and interesting tingle along with the other spices to make for a slightly paradoxical sweet and drying finish towards the end fade. In 2011, plans were announced to move the manufacturing process to a new facility at Laverstoke Mill in Whitchurch, Hampshire, including the restoration of the former Portal's paper mill at the proposed site, and the construction of a visitor centre. Planning permission was granted in February 2012, and the centre opened to the public in the autumn of 2014. The visitor centre included a new construction by Thomas Heatherwick of two glasshouses for plants used as botanicals in the production of Bombay Sapphire gin.
