The London dry gin base is made using tradition steep and boil pot distillation with the following botanicals: juniper berries, organic bergamot, cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander seeds, angelica root, Spannish sweet lemon peel, Italian ground orris root, liquorice root, Spanish Seville orange peel and Chinese cassia bark. The botanicals, which include juniper, a mix of citrus, licorice root, cinnamon, and nutmeg, are macerated for 8 hours in the neutral spirit. It is then redistilled in a copper pot-still. Next they steam distill wild juniper and cold-press bergamot peel to extract their essential oils. These are then added to the gin post-distillation. There is both a 40% ABV strength for the UK-market and an export-strength at 45% ABV. Nose: Citrusy with pronounced lemon and orange zests, pine fresh and eucalyptus juniper, earthy chocolate and potpourri. Palate: Explodes with flavour - zesty lemon, candied orange and piney juniper with floral parma violet and lavender. Faint coal dust and earthy liquorice notes coupled with nutmeg and peppery spice add to this this gin's complexity. Finish: This characterful gin punches above its weight and alc./vol. in the flavour stakes as it explodes with piney juniper and zesty citrus freshness along with earthy liquorice and enlivening spice. This distillery, owned and operated by Alcohols Ltd is responsible for the production of 80 brands of gin, and created 40 million bottles. The company is one of the UKs last remaining independent family owned distilleries dating back to 1805. The Langley Distillery is in the heart of the Black Country.
