Size: 700ML Proof: 84 (42%ABV) Origin: France Distillery: Christian Drouin Christian Drouin is a well-known and much-adored Calvados producer, but the distillers have put aside the traditional French spirit for something a little different - gin! They have create a base spirit from 30 varieties of cider apple, and have taken inspiration from the flavours frequently found in Calvados to come up with the botanical recipe, which features lemon, ginger, rose, cardamom, cinnamon, vanilla and almond. Nose: Crisp and bright with floral lavender and citrus, joined by a touch of caramel later on Palate: Chewy juniper, fresh cherry and a touch of cinnamon. Finish: Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish. The Drouin family are relative newcomers to Calvados. The firm was founded in 1960 by Christian Drouin the elder, an industrialist from Rouen in Northern France. He developed his interest when he bought a farm in Gonneville complete with cider apple orchards and decided to try to make the best Calvados he could. It�s still a family business now run by the third generation and widely acknowledged as one of the best as well as most innovative producers in the region. Drouin pioneered cask finishing for Calvados in a series of collaborations with Japanese whisky, Jamaican rum and Tequila producers. The family don�t only age brandy in experimental barrels but they also send Calvados-seasoned casks so that other distilleries can create innovative expressions like Mackmyra �ppelblom.
